Community Projects drives the Corporate Social Investment programmes of Independent Newspapers KZN. It operates exclusively within the province of KwaZulu Natal where it strives to improve the wellbeing of disadvantaged communities and individuals through its own programmes and by supporting initiatives of other organisations.
Community Projects core focus is on education, healthcare and children.
HEALTHCARE
Community Projects provide support for communities where basic healthcare facilities are
inaccessible.
With the support of our readers Community Projects assist individuals with medical expenses arising from trauma and injury through the establishment and administration of dedicated funds.
In conjunction with external donors Community Projects supply products to HIV/AIDS babies and adults.
EDUCATION
Community Projects flagship project is the Argus School which focuses on adult literacy and skills’ training ranging from sewing, to computers, to matriculation re-writes.
Bursaries are provided for a small number of school children unable to afford
worthwhile education.
Community Projects assist with the provision of library books to disadvantaged schools.
STUDENT PROGRAMMES
Community Projects student training programme offers young people, from 16 - 25 years old, the opportunity to learn new skills through experiential employment.
They work weekends and public holidays at all Independent Newspaper events, focusing on branding and sales, communication, organisation, marketing, product promotion, work ethic and social responsibility.
GENERAL
Community Projects administer and disperse all donations of cash from readers and
individual benefactors.
Community Projects receive huge numbers of donations in kind from individuals and businesses which we sort and distribute in accordance with the donors wishes.
Community Projects help with co-ordination of fundraising ventures on behalf of communities.
